 Let's Get Started

This blog will include photographs and descriptions relative to my photo projects, past, present, and future.  I don't know exactly how diligent I will be yet, and there is a high likelihood that I will change to a more formal Web space after Summer, but this gives me a free option to explore my thoughts about a web presence again for my photography other than Facebook and Instagram.  I am a bit bored of both of those platforms, to be honest, so I want to explore other venues.

So my first batch of photos here is somewhat representative of past projects that will likely also influence projects to come.  One of the weaknesses of a blog approach is the limitation in formatting, but I think this gives a sense of the scope of my non-human work.  I also do some portrait work, primarily with my wife as the subject, that will expand a bit this summer in our trip to Thailand.

One of my common places to take photos is on the Glenn Terrell Mall at Washington State University.  This photo was taken with Kodak 35 mm black and white film a little bit after sunrise.

Downtown Pullman is another haunt that is constantly changing as water levels, snow or lack thereof, and lighting change seemingly by the moment.

There are a lot of sculptures on the WSU campus, this being one of them.  I don't really know what it is supposed to symbolize, but it is interesting nonetheless.

A fairly common thoroughfare for students during the regular semester is this walkway in between the PE buildings.

Probably my favorite building on campus is the music building, which is just across from where my office is.  I think I like it most in black and white, especially at times when there is good contrast with the strong light and shadows.

Bryan Hall at WSU is also next to my office building.  In fact, I see the clock tower from my office window.  This shot was taken from the ground just outside the building with strong lighting and shadows.

I took a short photo trip to Couer d'Alene, Idaho not long ago and did a mini-hike along the pathway leading to this lighthouse station.  It was so nice to have such a sunny day after so many cloudy, dreary days this past Spring.

There was a time when I would pass Freeze Church just north of Potlatch, Idaho often but never stop there.  In 2013, I made a conscious decision to stop passing up these kinds of photo opportunities if I had a camera with me because you simply never know when you will no longer have a chance to make the side trip.  Now I stop off for pictures here quite often unless I have some specific deadline to meet.

Here is another shot of the Couer d'Alene lighthouse.

Kamiak Butte is a popular hiking spot just north of Pullman.  I love the hike up and back because you are rewarded with some cool lighting, shadows, and just a peaceful vibe.

Again, the views from Kamiak Butte are really quite spectacular depending on the time of year and the amount of haze.  On this day, the sky was very clear, and the sun simply felt amazing.

Another picture from Kamiak Butte.

The town I live in, Endicott, Washington has a fair number of hidden gems that never get used by anyone in the town.  There is a little park as you come into town that I really enjoy going to because it feels like my own private park.  The city guy has really been doing a good job of making it look nice and inviting.  Still, no one goes there.

A couple years ago, the city of Endicott skyline grew immensely.  In fact, I think we have one of the biggest grain complexes on the Palouse now (not completely sure, but it is big).  Here is just a sample.

One of the town residents owns several buildings in town, including an old bar that is now his personal storage building.  He has these old cars parked by the building, as he has run out of room in his other buildings.

This final picture is the old community church.  I think there are only a handful of people who attend the church, but it is a cool building, architecturally.
